Meta has unveiled Muse for Small Business, a workplace version of its hit AI agent, marking the company's biggest push yet beyond the consumer market and into enterprise AI. The move signals that Mark Zuckerberg wants Meta to compete directly with OpenAI and Anthropic for business customers — and he is betting small businesses are the way in.
What Muse for Small Business does
The new service connects Meta's Muse AI agent to the software small businesses already use every day, including Asana, Zoom, Intuit, Box, Canva and Salesforce's Slack. The agent can also link directly to Meta ad accounts and professional Instagram and Facebook profiles.
"Give Muse a goal — like running your business or finding new customers — and it gets it done," Meta said in its announcement.
Pricing stays the same as the consumer Muse app: free with usage limits, with a subscription available for heavier use.
Built for the 200 million businesses already on Meta
Meta says 200 million small businesses already operate on Facebook, giving it a foothold its AI rivals do not have. "Small businesses have been growing on our apps for nearly two decades," the company said. "They told us they're short on hours, not ideas. So we built Muse for Small Business to help get work done with the tools they already use."
Translation: instead of asking owners to migrate to a new platform, Meta is bringing the AI assistant to the tools and social platforms they already live in.
Part of a bigger enterprise push
The launch follows Meta's announcement one day earlier that it is building a full enterprise platform, led by newly hired CEO of that division CJ Desai, poached from MongoDB. That platform will include a Muse agent, a business agent and a coding tool.
At its Meta Connect event last week, Zuckerberg described Muse as the "centerpiece" of his AI strategy. The push follows billions of dollars spent on top AI talent, most notably Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang, whose team has been shipping new AI models under the Muse Spark family since April.
Momentum on Wall Street
Meta's stock is up roughly 25% in September, driven by the momentum behind Muse. Since its September 8 rollout, the agent shot to the top of Apple's App Store, surpassing ChatGPT. Evercore analyst Mark Mahaney told CNBC he expects Muse to reach 100 million users within six to 12 months.
Why it matters for small business owners everywhere
For entrepreneurs and small business owners worldwide, the message is that AI agents are no longer just chatbots — they are becoming digital employees that can schedule meetings, manage projects, create designs and run ad campaigns across the tools you already use.
If Meta delivers on the promise, a one-person business could soon have an assistant that works the way a whole operations team once did. The enterprises that learn to direct these agents early will spend less time on admin and more time growing.
